New York state proposing changes to chemicals in dry cleaning

“The state is proposing changes to rules for dry cleaners for the first time in 20 years that are aimed at reducing potential leaks of a carcinogenic dry cleaning chemical.

Rules proposed by the state Department of Environmental Conservation target the use of perchloroethylene (PCE, also known as “perc”), a cleaning solvent that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said can cause cancer. The rules would build on federal requirements that older dry cleaning machines that use PCE no longer be used after December 2021,” Read more here.
